Default Changing speakers w/out adding an amp, worth it?

I have an '02. Is it worth changing out the speakers without adding an amp? Is there enough of a noticable sound upgrade?

Thanks.

i did it and yes

but i thought i lost some bass with the sony 3-way ... not until i changed my HU to alpine, everything is better after changing the HU

even with the stock HU, after changing the front speakers, you will be able to hear sound that you've never heard before

after that, i added rear speakers and it fills the carbin with sounds better and can feel just a little more bass

Sound quality-wise, if you (anybody out there) could only change one thing, would it be the speakers or the head unit?

If you're not in the clipping region for the stock internal amp, the speakers are the best upgrade. The downside with the stock head is it clips pretty quickly.

Absolutely worth changing. The speakers are the ONLY part of your system that actually create what your ears hear...everything else is just electrical. Speakers are the LAST place to cut corners on imo.

i would caveat what matrix says with something of my own. i think most after-speakers sound good even off the stock head. but some don't show their true potential without proper power. the stock head puts out too little power (IMHO) to take the full advantage of many aftermarket speakers. yes i think it's a worthwhile upgrade, but seriously think about an external amp or a more powerful head--it makes a big difference.

You will notice a difference with just speaker upgrades but when you add a amp, it's a totally different world.

No, only way you will notice a significant difference is by changing the head unit out as well.

I totally disagree. I used the stock head for 6 months and swapped out the stock speakers for some Sony 3-ways...the difference was like night and day. I picked up even more quality by installing an aftermarket head.
