Default CLOSE PLEASE

I searched for about an hour an a half but didnt really get the answers im looking for.

I wanted to install a subwoofer, probably 10 inch w6 or w7. I already found a custom box for sail but I will be losing the tire equipment compartment. I have read that there is some pretty bad rattling and was looking for some solutions with pictures.
In most opinions, is the rattle not worth gettin a subwoofer? Im not OCD about perfect sound but I cannot take rattle.
Also, I have an amp running to the speakers but a factory head unit. Is a new head unit required for the subwoofer? I have an MY00. And i know for a w7 im going to need a new amplifier as well.

In general, how does the bass coming through the trunk sound? Ive heard many subs coming through sedan seats but never through a trunk liner like the S.
Im trying to spend about 500 bucks on the system...100 for subbox, 250ish for sub, and about 150 amp. Am i going to be dissappointed. Thanks

IMHO, spending $500 on a sub system while using the stock 00 HU and speakers is a complete misallocation of money.

For example, from crutchfield.com you could get a Pioneer HU with IPOD integration, PAC dash control to retain your dash switches, Infinity door speakers with tweets, and a small powered sub (so you wouldn't need an amp) all for less than $600 shipped to your door.

All you'll get for $500 in a sub while using the 00 HU is crap sound with extra bass.

But that's just my 2 cents.

You may know this. Stock head unit does not have the power to run the sub, so you will need to get the amp to run it. Also, you will need a coil / crossover for the sub as well.

Here is an idea for you. If your current amp is a 4 channel, and you are only running 2 channels for the front speakers, bridge the unused channels and run the sub off that. I think it is called a trimodal setup. Also, I would replace the headunit regardless. You want to have the cleanest output from the HU b/c you are going to amplify it. The stock HU does not have "clean" output.

So, things you will need to buy:
1. New HU
2. New Sub
3. Crossover

Good luck

Thanks, but I do not belive the sub I have is strong enough for a W6 or W7. so...
4. New amp

What about anyone who has installed a sub...
What do you think about that rattle, and was it worth it?
How did you have it installed? I heard about port holes- is this necessary?

IMO, the w7 is way too much for the S2000. The trunk isnt big enough to take advantage of the air movement the w7 will produce. I would recommend the w6.

I too second S2KinVA's advice, W7 is overkill in our car, your teeth will fall out.

A w6 might still be too much, and if your worried about the tray rattling, I can guarantee you will be rattling with that sub.

Your options are either take the tray out, cut a hole in it to create a vent, or do the impossible which no one else has been able to from what I can gather, and that is to isolate the exact rattles in the tray and fix them.

I just learned to live with the rattle, its annoying at first, but not as annoying as trying to fix it and getting nowhere. And to take the tray out is a pain in the azz.

By the way I run a Lotus Seas Sub, awesome sub.
