Compustar and Passport 8500 install pix.
If you wire the proximity sensor so that you could have it in a "standby" mode, where the blue and green wires are disconnected, with a dpdt or dpst switch, you can use the indicator LED's (the Red and Green ones) to adjust the sensitivities as you walk around or hover over the car. When it's on the console area, with the armrest off, I can easily see where the near and far zones are triggered by looking in thru the windows. Also the two zone settings interact, so that adjusting one requires readjusting the other one. If you keep a "log" of the settings that seem to work, you can narrow down what would cause the least false alarms. When it rains, I have a cover on and hope no one is crazy enough to be out there. I think rain does two things: the drops are the size of the microwaves and may interfere. Also the rain and wind may shake the top and fool the detector into thinking there is movement close by. If you put in the switch, you could just put the proximity sensor into standby without turning off the alarm or needing to unplug it.
how is the 8500 mounted up in there? is it just stuck up at the top of the windshield using the standard windshield mount?
i have one arriving this week and my thoughts were to mount it in essentially the same location.
more details and/or a photo would be appreciated.
thanks!

I mounted mine with just the suction cups... If I can find my pics.. I'll post them later.... However 1 question...
Is it ok to use a regular phone jack to hardwire the 8500? If so what colors are ground and Pos?

I do know that a standard phone jack will work, but I don't have any specs on color codes.
I just used the factory suction cups. I have normally been very leery of suction cups, but these seem to work VERY well.

i hard wired mine in last night.... the 12V+ and ground are the two center wires... Green is ground and Red is positive. be sure to use a fuse.

btw, speaking of fuses:
ruexp67: what size fuse did the OEM hardwire kit come with? i bought and went w/ a 10 amp b/c that was what i could find at the time, and i was fairly sure that was the fuse size for the accessory plug, but i'm figuring that's probably a bit oversized for a direct wire application.

Yeah a friend of mine really gave me the idea. We did a little GB on these (we each go one) and he installed it in his truck. 3 mos later he bought a 'Vette. The 'vette has the heads up display and he is currently trying to figure out how to install the LED out of the smart cord so he can see it as part of the heads up.

It's THAT install that I remember better, and I am positive it is 10a.
