Default Crutchfield

I was just getting ready to order a new set of components for my car today and went to Crutchfield and for some reason NOW they say that none of the component speakers fit the S2000. I know for a fact that they used to have speakers that the site said fit the car. Anyone else seen this? It's made me question what will fit without a lot of modification.

The adviser I spoke with said it was because of the limited space between the speaker and the factory speaker cover. They said it's only 0.5" and that none of the speakers they have will fit in that.

Any help would be appreciated.

1st: Crutchfield is overpriced.

2nd: There's a thread floating around somewhere with a diagram of the dimensions. I believe my woofers have a 2.3" mounting depth and without a spacer (mounted directly to the door) they're just barely clearing the window spool.

Any 6.5" woofer with <2.3" will fit without a spacer, if you use a spacer, that will add to the mounting depth (most spacers are .75" MDF, I believe).

I think the point the adviser was making was not the mounting depth of the speaker, but instead the mounting "height"... i.e. the distance the speaker sticks out from the door such that putting the door panel and stock speaker cover on would be a fit issue.

I think Crutchfield's customer base is looking for speakers that will
drop in with zero modifications, so I suspect that's why they say nothing
will fit, and I suspect the problem is actually with the tweeter, not the
woofer.
Virtually any 6.5" woofer will fit if you substitute an up to 3/4" spacer for
the factory basket (I've been told a JL 6W0 subwoofer will not, though).
Putting a tweeter into the factory pods is a little more difficult - I believe
I've read that the AP2 pod has mounting posts that are a tight fit for some
tweeters. On my AP1 pods, I just had to shim out the rear mounting
bracket a little.
I'd say pick out the comps you want, and then ask here whether anyone
has installed them and what the issues were.

With the tweets, any 1" tweet is going to require a bit of modification to fit between the posts. There's likely a portion of the plastic casing you can dremel out (carefully so you don't damage the tweet) to fit the posts.

I was looking at the Boston Acoustic SX60's or the JL TR650... but I'd also be open to the MB quarts... sadly, I'm not ready to put an amp in yet, so I need something that will run off headunit power alone for now.

1st: They're overpriced (compared to ebay) but the phone support and service are excellent... I got some of my stuff from there, and some from eBay. I don't have a bad thing to say about Crutchfield, especially if you'll need any sort of help or possibly to return something.

When I could not for the life of me get a straight answer about single vs dual 4ohm voice-coil subwoofers matched to my amp, they had me on the phone with an expert that straightened it out for me and got the right product in the mail that day. There's value in that service and expertise... and return policy.

2nd: I got the Polk MMC6500 from Crutchfield, and noticed they were discontinued soon after. So that's probably the source of your confusion. If you can find them, I'm extremely happy with the polks. They were the only ones Crutchfield listed as a "direct fit".

Crutchfield is also an authorized dealer for everything they sell. Ebay and/or various cheaper online shops may or may not. Nothing wrong with paying less from an unauthorized dealer, but you won't have manufacturer warranty support.

Yeah... I know Crutchfield isn't the cheapest... but sometimes I'm willing pay a little extra for their customer service... it's excellent. They also tend to include bit in the order to make the install easier (wiring harness adapters, etc).

I'll look around for the Polks and see what I can find... Any suggestion on the Boston Acoustics or the MB Quarts?

Free shipping on order $250+, manufacture warranty, no taxes if you order from outer state, Crutchfield own how to install manual, excellent tech support, free harnessed and adapters depend on your purchase. You might save $50-$100 from elsewhere, but if you do the math, you're not saving much if any at all.
