Default To cut or not to cut...

That is the question.

OK, after reading past posts for weeks I decided on 6.5" speakers to replace the front stock speakers because lots of people used 6.5's with no problems. Well, my MY04 speaker cutouts are only 5.25". So now I need to decide if I go get 5.25" speakers or start cutting on the door. Anyone, had to cut the door frame to install? Is it worthwhile just to get 6.5's to fit? All opinions welcome. BTW they are Eclipse speakers.

I haven't got my 04 yet. Are the speaker holes a different size than the 00-03? Lucid offers an installation kit if they are the same size that they have been in years past.

IMO 6.5's sound much better than 5.25. The midrange is more balanced.

Willie...I don't know for sure about the pre 04's. The cutout for the 04 is definetely 5.25". The eclipse speakers have a HUGE basket that makes the speakers stand out about 1.25" from the door frame, so Lucid's installation kit won't do it.

Anyone know what size the door cutout is for MY03?

Hmmm.......are you sure its 5.25? It sounds like they are just big speakers with a big magnet, thats why they are not fitting. If you are sure that they are 5.25, and the s2000 is yours free and clear, cut that bad boy.

Gasps of disbelief.

Well that changes my plan. Keep me posted. Can you get 6.5's in the door with cutting?

So it is true that the 03's have larger openings

PJK I have to take the door panels off again tonight to test fit a 5.25 to decide if I want to settle, or start cutting, so I will take some pics to post. Oh yeah...it is 5.25 with the basket removed!

Willie I will see how much can actually be cut around the opening, but as I recall there should be enough room for a 6.5. Just going to be a PITA
