Default Dashboard dock for Smart Phone

Is that a gig processor on your dash or are you just happy to see me?

The dock is bolted to my A pillar, and hard wired for power. I got really lucky when I ripped the dock apart to see the inside, there was a perfect place for a bolt. The angle its at bothered me at first, but then I noticed it follows the window angle well as you drive. When using my Garmin bluetooth to make calls, it automatically lights up to show who is calling. Its very easy to slide the phone into the dock, and the car doesn't generate enough grip to throw it out of it. I doubt it will stay when I mount one in the Rex. Since this is my 3rd hard wired device in the S, it only took a half an hour. I've got more computers in my car than Mike now.

The power is wired up in the secret compartment as below using a
dual socket item I found on Amazon dual socket item I found on Amazon
. I chopped off the end and wired it straight to the back of the existing socket in the S. I can unplug them easily if I need to at any time.

For reference, here is a pic of what the other power adapter is for, my GPS on the Modifry mount.

Thanks, I should have asked JR what he thought of the goofy guy in a fedora over this weekend!

So the plug on the dock I've been using is actually more sophisticated than I thought, it has a spring loaded pivot so if you pull on it out of its alignment it doesn't get damaged. I finally got one installed in the Subie yesterday. I think I'm going to need to modify it more to help it handle the g-forces. The one in the S has been noticeably failing to hold the phone, slipping out about a millimeter after the snap of the rear tires recovering from a power slide. I'm thinking maybe dremel out a little square where the back of the phone touches and replace it with that rubber stuff that grips really good.

How it looks installed:

Seems like an odd way to route power (with power available in the front) but, as you said, you can easily undo if needed.

Yeah, but it is actually way easier than crawling under the dash.
