I just put mine in a while ago too. The only difference is I didn't stick with the icelink's interface and using the headunit to control it. I went with the mode where I could use ipods interface and the ipod itself to choose songs and stuff.

I have a pic of how I mounted it...
The wire behind them ount isn't the ipods....it's for my V1 which is mounted on my windshield.

Pictures coming as soon as I get the mount. The mount is similar to the one in the above post.

$199 is the going price. Considering the alternatives:

1. iPod to Car $199 (only does audio and track skip, no integration)
2. iCruze $199 (buggy, possibly pulled off the market)
3. Honda solution, and others $150+ (some have limitations or are buggy)
4. HON-AUX ~$70, no integration. Audio only.
5. Axxess ipod adapter $150 (buggy, unit I tried didn't work at all)
Not bad at all.

The Panavise mount finally came in. It worked better than I expected, but I was hoping the iPod would be a tad lower and closer to the dash. Only two things were necessary to get this to work well:

1. Shave off a skosh of plastic from the radio bezel where it contacts the metal bracket. Otherwise the door will not "fall open" when unlatched.

2. Bend the flat part holding the ipod out just a small bit so the radio door doesn't hit it.

Very stable - the iPod doesn't move at all when driving.

pretty interesting. I have the icelink in my soon to be replaced audi a4 and I guess it uses this second mode you speak of by default. By that I mean, it the ipod powers up and down with the car, when not selected it goes into hibernation and charges, and when selected, I manually choose the artist or disc on my ipod, then I can control track selection and volume via the headunit. Is this basically what the "special" mode is that you speak of? Can you set it and forget it, or do you have to select this mode everytime you start the car up? I"m basically lookin for a in car ipod solution that will act exactly the way I had it set up in the audi.
