Default Dimmer wire

Will I be able to use the dimmer wire on my Pioneer head, or am I supposed to use the illumination wire?

In other words, can I connect the dimmer wire to the illumination wire on the harness?

Pinky,

Sure, leaving it off is easier... but is sure is nice to have a super bright stereo dim at night... Personally, I always use the dimmer leads.

Thing is that a dimmer and illumination wire are different. One is used to supply voltage to light up a unit another is to trigger the dimmer on the radio.

You must match them up. Please check the owners manual and the install harness into the car as to which wires to hook up.

When +12V is on the dimmer wire, the radio lights go to a low intensity setting. Just like the S2000 digital dash. The dimmer wire is typically connected to the dash lights, so when they go on the display dims.

Option Connector "E", labeled #9 in the Helm manual, (it is the top connector) is a good place to connect to. It is Hot with the Tailights. So anytime you turn the headlights/parking lights on your radio display will go dim.

The "illumination wire" is power for the display. It is typically connected to get power when the Ignition Switch is ON. Option Connector "C", labeled #6, (the bottom connector) is a good place to connect to. It is Hot with Ignition ON (and the starter not cranking).
