Thumbs up DIY Shift Light

Just wondering if this is possible or if anyone has done it. The light on the dashboard used for the factory alarm usually just flashes red as part of the alarm. For those of us that don't have the factory alarm, the light is pretty pointless...has anyone managed to make a shift light out of this?

i'd like to know how to tap into that light as well. It would be great as a VTEC indicator or used as the flashing led for an aftermarket alarm

That's because you have an AP1. The AP2 cluster has the LED right by the speedo.

You could just get one of those MSD RPM-activated switches. They have different "pills" for different RPM.

Thanks I should have mentioned I'm looking to do this for an AP2 cluster since the light is in a convenient spot.

EDIT: Hopefully Modifry chimes into this thread.

A couple of years ago, Cyclone36 (Joe) from Atlanta, GA made an electronic gizmo (The Blinking Light) that caused the alarm light to blink whenever the ignition key was in the off or removed position. It was a couple of wires and a circuit board that plugged-in the under the dash fuse box.... Perhaps you could PM Joe and then figure out how to use the alarm light as a shift light .....
