Default Does anyone else have the Eclipse Commander?

I had an Eclipse face until, voice commands unit, and GPS installed. I'll be posting pictures and a review soon. Has anyone else had these unit(s) installed?

Put it this way: Head unit, GPS, and voice command unit were all about $900!

i've played with them extensively... for the most part, really good stuff - the commander thing is kinda streaky sometimes... when it was going well, it worked perfectly... when not so well, i said 'f--king stupid radio' and it tuned in a light top 40 station... couldn't explain that one. saying 'commander do this and commander do that' all the time got kinda tired as well... and the thought of a passenger changing stations and cd's to be funny wasn't too appealing. other than that, great stuff, great sounding... just the commander didn't seem too important.

Well... I had the first commander unit replaced due to a bad weld in the microphone jack (very very common ). Now, I am rarely getting a GPS signal. The GPS NEVER works if you mount the antenna on the dash so I have to stick it in between the top and the support above the driver side visor.

When it works, it is VERY precise! Down to a few feet.

When you say " when it works" is there just the problem w/ your Commander MIC or is it tempermental and only works when it wants to? I'm currious, because that seems strange for a unit to malfunction sometimes. ( Eclispe is very High end Audio)--do you think the head unit is messed up?

Well... When I initially had the unit installed, the microphone didn't work. The shop told me that I would have to activate the unit with the voice recognition company before it would work, so i did. It still didn't work. I brought it back and it turned out that the mic jack had broken apart from the circuit board (it is held there basically by a thread and very delicate). The ordered a new unit and it accepted my commands after that. I had to configure the GPS system and a couple days later that too worked. Now I will ask it, "Navigatior, where am I" and it will respond with "GPS is not available". The GPS antenna I know did not work in my windshield so I relocated it above the driver side visor wedged into the soft top. When I did this, I had no problem getting a signal. Now, all of a sudden, a can never get a signal. I try it 4 or 5 times a day and it might work once every few days. I got into a fight with the shop about replacing the first unit and I don't even want to bring it back there. I was going to call Eclipse and bitch and whine.

I installed the 5441 head unit and it is awesome. I can equalize it with +5 treble -3 mid and +1 bass and it sounds 200% better that the stock radio. It actually has great sound to it with stock speakers. I'm just not happy with the commander/gps unit. I was going to install an alpine cva-1005 screen, but it won't flip out. Then I saw someones custom install on this board and kicked myself.
