Default Dome light is frazzled!

Can anyone post a DIY or similar on how to remove the entire interior dome light assembly?

Mine is acting up. The problem comes on and off, but when it's happening, a couple things happen:

a) The light won't come on when I unlock the car (like it's supposed to!)
b) The light won't come on when I open the doors.
c) The light won't stay on or off depending on how it feels. I've had the light on when the slider is on the clearly marked OFF position.

It's driving me crazy!

Also, the thieves at the local Honda dealer wants $104 for the assembly. I don't think a piece of plastic with some wires and bulbs is worth that much. Where can I get cheap OEM dome lights?

According to the Helms manual, at least for an AP1, the lens pops off,
and the assembly is held in place with two screws.
I've never ordered from them, but HondaAutomotiveParts.com has
a nice online catalog with discounts off of list. You could also check
the "for sale" forum for a used one from someone parting a car.

sit in your driver's seat and look at your dome light. i can't recall off the top of my head but there should be two flat head slots either in the front or the back.

use a flat head to gently pry that off. then you'll see two phillips screws in the back of the assembly, near the lights. take that off.

gently pull it apart from the interior plastic and it will be held by a small wire harness.

of course, someone please correct me if i'm wrong.

i experienced problems like the OP, and i found out that the phillips screws weren't tightened and were a bit loose. tightened those suckers up and everything worked normally.

good luck!

to remove the clear lens you pry with a flathead on the side closer to the windshield.

i believe the screws mentioned above not only hold the housing in place but one of them is also a ground point. your light might act up if its loose.

just adding to the above post.
