Default Door Speaker Recomendations?

Just bought my S2000, and want to address the door speakers
first. Since I have an '02, the factory HU is tolerable for the
moment, and would like your input on speaker upgrade options.
I have studied the Lucid Automotive site and am leaning towards
the 7 inch Excelons, as they are quite sensitive and should
deliver a little mid-bass punch. Thoughts?
Thanks for your time!

We are always happy to help out someone that is new to dealing with the S2K stereo wise.

I would suggest doing some research here in the Electronics forum. Use the search button

How much you would like to spend on speakers? That will give us a direction to take you in. What's your limit? $200 $500... what are you comfortable spending?

I installed Kenwood componet speakers and am quite pleased. Don't forget to get an amp and sub - you're gonna need them! I stuck with the stock HU and am satisfied with the upgrade.

I can budget about $250.00 for front speakers. Since my car has a factory tweeter, should I get a coaxial or just upgrade the factory
driver with a similar type?
Thanks, and I will use the search function as a primary tool.

Boston Acoustic Ralleys are nice. I just recently pulled some out of my S and upgraded to BA pro60's. The rallys have a separate tweeter and crossover circuitry. I also upgraded my amp, HU, and CD changer.

Make you a great deal on a set of BA Ralleys with an Alpine V series 2 channel amp. It has 35w per channel.. I also have an an Alpine CD changer that works with the factory head unit. PM me if you are interested.

I would probably amp the front speakers or change the HU before swapping speakers. With an aftermarket HU, the stock speakers in my 04 were much better. When I amped them before I installed my Oz Audio components, they responded VERY well. Most aftermarket speakers are designed to use MUCH more power than a stock HU is capable of putting out.

Thumbs up

has anyone forked out the $500 for the headrest speakers honda is offering? Are they worth it?

I'd like to do just a slight upgrade to the sound system, i.e. replace just the door speakers and nothing else - no amp, woofer, etc.

Suggestions?

I have MB Quart Q-series 6.5's in my M3 and it's phenomal but at $800 per set it's quite pricey....

One of my buddies is running Diamond Hex 6's and they have excellent mid-bass but smoother highs than the Quarts ~ $600

Been wanting to try the Focal Kevlar series so might move towards those in my s2000 soon. I have some cheap Sony speakers in there now and since I'm moving to a new 2 channel amp for the fronts, thought this would be ideal...hehe
