It nudges the switch which tells the ECU to stop rolling the window down. I would suggest against getting rid of it unless you like to see your window scraping the ground or shattered into millions of pieces in the bottom of your door.

You could always add a ring of MDF to increase the depth.

The door panel should fit fine afterwards, most of us with aftermarket speakers are using a spacer.

The local car stereo shops in my area usually sell spacer rings, not sure about Sweden but it's worth a try.

Lucid also sells an adapter for front speakers, it's really great since you don't need to drill any new holes in the metal - it's custom made for the S2k.

You can also use an MDF spacer rings without drilling metal. Just use the stock speaker basket as a template and mark the approriate locations on the MDF ring. Pre drill the MDF and start the screws, then line it up with the holes in the doors.
