Default DVD Burner suggestions?

I'm thinking of adding a DVD burner to my PC, for data backups as well as being able to copy/backup movies. Obviously, it must support all of the various DVD burn formats, +R, +RW, -R, -RW. Does anyone recommend any specific brands. My experience with early CD burners indicated that some brands were significantly more reliable than others and their burned discs had better compatability with other players. I expect DVD burners to be the same way, so I'm looking for anyone who has had good success with any particular one. Budget isn't a big concern here.

Thanks for your help,

I bought a Pioneer 106D 3 weeks ago and have been very happy with it so far, not one bad disc burned out of 15-20.

Have your other DVD players been able to read the discs it created?

Yes, I've played them in my Sony DVD player and every disc has been fine.

The Sony DRU510A BURNS ALL FORMATS: DVD+R / DVD+RW, DVD-R / DVD-RW, CD-RW / CD-R!!

We've had ours about 8 months and it is GREAT for archiving movies and converting our huge library of home movie 8mm tapes to DVD. Every +RW disk we have made plays on all our DVD players, including my X-Box AND PS2! I was concerned about which format would be compatible, and now I do not have to worry since I can burn ALL current formats. We paid about $275 for ours but I just checked Froogle and saw it for as low as $150!

Good luck.

I have a Sony as well, but got it a while back, when the price of it was $400

But it's been great. I mainly use it to "back-up" PS2 games (since I modded my system) and movies I haven't had any probs with my DVD player, but it's a Sony too, but I've made DVD's for friends, and no one's complained either. I normally use DVD+R's though...

I just got a LG 4040B a few weeks ago and have been VERY happy with it. For the money ($120 or so) it's a REALLY great unit. Check out Tom's Hardware to see what I mean, as he recommends it.

I have burned both DVD-R and DVD+R with it, and both types of discs have worked in both my Pioneer RP56 and my sister's Apex players. Of course, different DVD players will probably give different results. It's a really fast burner (20 mins to extract or to burn on my P4 1.6GHz). Of course it's not a Sony, but I'm not too worried about it...
