Default Dynamat

Should I dynamat my car or not? Do you really need it? Is it just to prevent various body panels from vibrating, or does it just help insulate the car better for better accoustics? Also, what areas of the car should you dynamat if at all?

I wouldn't for a couple of reasons...

1) weight...
2) I am sure it could help, but well, the car is a convertable so I donno.. I'd spend the money else were...
3) weight...

Does it weigh that much? Where would you put it?

I believe a number that is floating around for weight-loss to equiv. hp-gain is .07hp/lb.

Spray Mat: 6.9lb single coverage both doors (12sqft). <BTW: the dynamat site is wrong. It is 0.08lb/in3 not ft3.>

DynaMat Extreme: 5.4lb single coverage both doors (6sqft each).

DynaMat Original: 6.0lb single coverage both doors (6sqft each).

DynaMat Premium: 5.9lb single coverage both doors (6sqft each).

DynaMat Super: 5.5lb single coverage both doors (6sqft each).

Worst case: 0.483hp or 0.2% loss. I don't think you'll notice the difference.

In perspective...The average man weighs 180, a small sub maybe 10, exhaust header 23. The weight will have virtually no effect unless it is sprung (moving) weight.

It will improve the sound at lower speeds. It will reduce (not eliminate) road noise.

sure, if you jsut do the doors it's not that bad... but then, would doing the doors really justify doing it at all? I know for my Maxima, I ended doing more than just the doors.... although I didn't use dynamat...

Perhaps it would help some jsut doing the doors, but to get benifit, it would probably be worthwhile to do more than just the door... ie floor pan, etc.

But I don't know, I think the fact that it's a convertable kinda just makes not think it's worth while to start.

Seems logical to apply it to the doors only since the door itself is the speaker box for the primary driver. I don't see why you would need to apply Dynamat anywhere else.

To deaden excess rattling or just deaden the cars vibrations all over.

So you guys would recommend doing the doors and floors? I'm assuming you don't need any in the trunk. Does anybody have pics of their dynamat install or just pics of what it looks like upon completion?

They have free samples. Maybe someone should order a few samples and check it out.
