Yeah, I installed this, but I don't know what you mean by "splice." There is a DIY thread on installing the hard wire kit for this detector, complete with good photos, which shows exactly where to get power. The only trick is to fish the cord which hooks up to the detector up the A-pillar; the other end of the cord--the one which has the "turn off sound" button--stays under the dash, and I just velcro'd it to the under side of the dash, to the left of the steering wheel.

That was going to be my reccomendation too.
Where did you mount the remote display?
I did this:
That's a very, very nice install. However, I would caution 2002-2005 owners, whose back windows are small, that mounting the detector where you have may unhealtily attenuate any signal from behind the car, since there is not a clean line of sight for us when the detector is so high.
I've mounted my detector just below the rear view mirror; not an ideal location from the visibility standpoint, but I believe that it makes it more effective.
I never thought about the rear window causing a problem. Honestly I almost never drive with the top up.
To the question above. There is a fuse panel on the driver's side under the dash. There are three extra spades available on it. One is always on, one is on with the lights and one is on with the ignition.
(I have an auxiliary outlet on all the time, and my windscreen is on with the lights. There is more info in my sig if you are interested.)

i can assure you, that the softtop will not interfere any with radar signals. laser? probably, but radar? definitely not.
The only other thing i would advise on doing is to mount the detector on the left side of the rearview. NFR told me to do this, and at first i hesitated. now i'm glad i did. it's way easier to see and the volume knob is easier to get to.
