I have been working on this for a while and it's finally complete. It took a lot more time than I had initially estimated, mainly because of the tight fit requiring a lot of precision. The bottom is made out of fiberglass, the top is 1/2" MDF braced for strength - this saves space compared to using 3/4" MDF. The enclosure fits perfectly in the spare tire.

Enclosure Volume is 10 litre, total weight including sub is 11lb. The sub is just a crappy MTX for now, I just wanted to get an idea about how big a sub I can fit in there. There's not much clearance, the biggest sub I can fit in there would have a bottom mounting depth of around 4 inches and it would still be a challenge. This MTX sub is 3.5" so I used it to play it safe for now. This sub is a perfect match in terms of enclosure volume. There are other 8" subs that would be suitable as well, but only if they fit.

As for how it sounds, it plays pretty low (surprisingly) but since it's only 100 WRMS, it does not get too loud. I'm also spoiled by the 12" JL12W3 sub in a box in my trunk well. The reason I started this project was that my JL12W3 is really quite loud and I thought I could be happier with something smaller that takes up no space with a bit of sacrifice in term of thump - since the 12W3 is overpowering my (amped) focals and I have to turn in down quite a bit.

Next, I'm going to find a better 8" sub or two smaller subs for this enclosure and when I'm finally happy with the sound I will update this post.

I am interested in this.

Mas, how do you bolt down the spare? Or, do you?

I have Bose box from RSX-S inside the spare but wish I can replace the sub with something better. How much would this cost if I were to duplicate it?

I have two JL 6W0's. Do you think they can be fit in this?
