Finally, the Audio sounds decent
Well, after four weeks of juggling components, I finally heard that "aahhh" sound today.
Stock. No comment. I just didn't turn it on. (I've owned a recording studio for more than thirty years, so my tolerance for poor car audio is pretty low.)
Then I bought the Pioneer P9300, the 12 disk changer, a Rockford 4 chan 800watt amp and a pair of Rockford's best 6.5" components. Verdict. I hated it. The mids were way too harsh, and even with hours of different EQ's, etc. nothing made it sound OK.
Then I swapped out the Rockford 6.5's for the Focal Utopia 6.5's. And I also swapped out the Rockford amp for a PPI 4 chan. 1000 watt. Not bad. With the top up. Top down. Not there yet.
Today, I added the Polk 4"ers behind the seats, the result of following the list for the past two months. (What a great resource this list has been.) And Wow! It sounds like what I expect to hear.
Yet to do: a PAC unit (purchased but not yet installed), and perhaps subs in the trunk (I've been quoted $1500 for two custom fiberglass jobs to go into the side corners, with 10" JL Audio's; my best guess so far.)
Anyway, thanks for all the posts. They've really helped.

If you are that particular about your audio I am surprised that you are happy with the Polk's for fill. I tried them and found IMO the quality was pretty mediocre. Replaced them with 4" A/D/S speakers for a vast improvement.

I was already considering this upgrade but was stumped as to what would fit, thus the Polks. Where might I get the A/D/S speakers?

Chris, are you driving front and back speakers from your Phoenix Gold amp that you have mounted above the spare tire?
