Default Glove Box Central locking

I drove a friends SLK and really liked the fact that the glove box had an automatic lock on it that was tied up to the car's central locking.

This way when you leave the car parked with the top down, you don't have to worry about locking the glove box with the key.

Does anyone think this would be a good mod to make on our cars ? Has anyone figured out how to make this work ?

Another nice feature missing from our S2K's...

Double Locking: On Z3's, you can double lock the doors. When this is done, you can not reach in and unlock a door when you leave the top down.

Monet: It would take a bit of time, but it would be nothing more than adding another remote lock to the inside of the glove box.

pfb: For all intents and purposes, I would consider that feature useless. If someone wanted to get in our cars with the top down, they'll lean in and push the lock. If they couldn't push the lock (Z3's), they'll hop over the door...either way, they'll get in. I suppose it would make it more obvious if a would-be thief "hopped in" in the middle of a public parking lot, but you and I know they'll do whatever is necessary to get what they want.

I just never put anything valuable in the glovebox, only in the trunk. That's why the first thing I did to my car was rewire the trunk switch to only work when the ignition is on. T'was easy, since the wires for the power outlet are only a foot away, I connected the switch to the outlet power socket wiring. As a bonus, you can then wire the power outlet to the switch wiring so the outlet has power all the time.

Oh well ... It's a Honda ... That's why the technology in security is a bit backwards. Japanese don't really have a thing for it. I like the features mentioned about the continential cars. Then again, you gain some and you lose some.

When I go to have my alarm installed I'm going to ask them to install a solonoid or something to lock the glovebox when the alarm is armed. That and when armed either disable the trunk switch or another activated lock. I'll let you know what I get and what it costs.

I can tell you this from watching it last year.

One of the members of the Arizona group locked her keys in the trunk and the console was locked. She tried getting into the console and couldn't. We called a locksmith. We thought getting into the center console would be easiest. He actually spent 30 minutes working on the center console, then decided to go for the trunk. It took "10 seconds" to get into the trunk, he never got into the center console....

You could try to rip the plastic apart, but the console was more secure in my opinion.

Five of us watched that spectacle.

i thought i remembered reading that there was a rather easy trick to opening the locked center console w/o any keys... i seem to recall it just involved some clever pushing...
