I just found out that Viper just came out with a newer & better system called the SST5900. It has better range than the previous 791XV...so I am weighing out these 2 different alarm brands!!! I also plan on installing the 508D prox. sensor if I do choose to go w/ the Viper and add an extra siren!!!

Systems with pagers are pretty much the way to go.

Sirens alone are pretty much worthless. They don't scare thieves off anymore because thieves know that people don't pay any more attention to a screaming alarm than just thinking "Man, I wish that guy would shut off his alarm. It's annoying." If they see someone standing next to the car when the alarm goes off, they don't assume it's a thief. They assume it's the owner fumbling with his keys.

Too many false alarms over the years. People have been conditioned to believe that a car alarm only goes off for false alarms. So you can't rely on Joe Neighbor to call the police for you if it goes off.

In my neighborhood, there are cars whose alarms go off when it rains. They're so annoying, it's more likely the neighbors would help the thief just so the alarm goes away permanently.

If all your system has is a siren, you have worse than no security.

I plan on getting an alarm with a 2 way pager, and adding an additional siren for extra annoyance. (I just want the car to be heard if something happens), also looking at a proximity device as well!!!

I finally decided upon the all new Viper V5900 SST with an added siren and the 508D prox. device. $500 plus tax all installed http://www.drdetailshop.com/V5900SST.htm
