GPS Mounted behind Radio Door

Was wondering if I mounted a GPS in the radio "bay", if it would get a signal...with the door open or removed. Has anyone tried this?

You will be able to get a signal, but depending on where you live the accuracy may vary wildly from 40 feet up to 115 feet. If your GPS unit has a plug for an external antenna then be sure to use if. Mine did not so I resorted to using one of these.
