Default Hardwired Dash Controls to Sony Deck Interface Done!

Well this message has been very long time in coming. I can't believe the amount of work that it took finish, but it is finally done.

I am going to be working out the details of becoming a board sponsor before I offer a group buy so that I don't step on anybodys toes with a commercial post. I will post the terms of the group buy and the price once I have completed this.

Thanks to those who helped make this item come into existence, and thanks to the folks who run this board for the possibilities that it has created. This adapter would not exist if it wasn't for this forum. I don't think I could have been motivated enough to finish it without the encouragement of others here on the forum.

The unit has the following features:

1. Recognizes all dash control buttons on the S2000 dash board.
2. All buttons except 'Mute' can be programmed to perform any function the user decides he/she wants it to do.
3. The 'Mute' function does not require any external relays or extra wiring. The handling of the 'Mute' button is part of the unit's design, it doesn't use the cel-phone mute lead either.
4. Each S2000 dash control (except Mute) can be programmed with two functions. The first function happens if you simply press the button, and the second function happens if you press and hold the button. This allows each button to do more than one thing, although there are some limitations to this feature.
5. Button press response is immediate, there is no delay or lag time. I have been told that some of the infra-red solutions to this problem introduce a noticeable delay when the dash control is pressed before anything happens. My adapter performs dash control functions immediately.
6. The unit utilizes the 3.5mm 'stereo' connector on the back of most Sony head units. There are no infra-red 'eyes' or other external aparatus. Everything is installed behind the stereo and under the dash, providing a very professional, completed installed appearance.
7. The unit will include a wiring diagram and programming instructions and can be installed by installer or anyone familiar with car stereo installation procedures.
8. Installation can be performed with no cutting or modification of the S2000 wiring when a third-party S2000 wiring harness adapter is used.
9. Upgradeable: I have designed the unit to be upgradeable. It's firmware can be updated to provide new features. There are also some spots on the unit to install some additional hardware for future expansion as well. Although I can't guarantee that I'll do them, some of the possible future features include:
Vehicle Speed adjusting volume control (Automatically up/down as vehicle goes faster/slower)
A reset-able vehicle top-speed recorder. This might be handy for people who let their children or friends drive the car unsupervised to get an idea of how 'fast' they went.
RS-232 control of external devices such as the 'Empeg' MP3 player

too cool! thanks for the hard work.

can you give us a ballpark on pricing?
are you going to do a bulk first run....and how many/how long for delivery?

I've got the upgrade itch and just could not stomach the IR solution....spent months watching the old thread........99, 100, 101 posts etc...just waiting for the day.

Thanks in advance!

s2kman,
Of course it goes without saying, but count me in too. I'm so glad to hear it's finished.
