hey guys i just got my radar detector and i already saw the guide to hardwiring the radar in s2000.org (or com) and it says you have to connect it to the fuse box with a fuse... where can i get his fuse? (best buy?)

anyway... is there any other way to hardwiring it? (splicing it into another power source other than the fuse box?)

A fuse is just a safety precaution. If you tap into the "hot with ignition" source at the fuse panel, this source is already fused but it's a very big fuse, so it won't protect your detector very well should something go wrong. You can easily buy an "inline fuse" from someplace like RadioShack and just splice this into the power wire of the detector cord.
Use the following to tap for power. Use the one labelled "igniton".

 

Yeah that's what I meant the inline fuse for the fuse box thing... So I can get it at radio shack? Anywhere else? (There isn't a radio shack near me that's why)...

Radio Shack, Best buy, Circuit City, any car audio shop, and probably Wal-Mart as well.

An inline fuse is not a "special" device. These should be available almost anywhere. You need to check with the radar detector manual to see what size of fuse they recommend. Don't just use whatever comes with the inline fuse.

 

Like a 10 or 20 amp one LOL.

Other places that will have them: Checker, PEP Boys, AutoZone..... most any auto parts store. The usually have them at Ace Hardware and other similar stores.

 

or if you plan on taking the radar detector out later, best buy sells a 12v extension cord. cut off the male end and splice that into your fuse box or cig. lighter and plug in your radar to that and just stick it behind the dash. then you still use the fuse built in on the power plug

 

Well I bought a fuse that splices an existing fuse into 2 but the fuse doesn't seem to go in all the way... Ahh this is so confusing lol

Oh yeah and no one had that inline fuse connector (auto zone, radio shack. Circuit city) does anyone remember the brand or anything? Where you got it?
