I'm looking at the Upgrade Order Form I printed last night, it says: "Total cost to upgrade: $0.00".

You said you recently received your V1 so maybe you qualify if they offer free upgrades for recent purchases. Did you enter your serial number?

It should also be known that being caught via POP mode is not acceptable for evidence. This is supposedly stated in the manual for the radar guns themselves (according to the V1 website).

To keep this on topic, I posted a week or so ago about the $55 upgrade, and that's on my 14-month old V1. I suppose the upgrade is free if you are within the return period.

What's neat is the "nudge, nudge, look at this feature" they tell the cops, then add a disclaimer to cover their asses. Most motorists would not know or care that they were "popped" by POP mode.

This is just a way that enforcement has become more important than deterrents. Gotta have that revenue stream.

Here in Georgia most of the cops use laser. I have a laser shifter and radar detector.

Preach it Brother!

i have the Passport 8500 X50 w/ POP detection. it comes defaulted off. now, thinking about what POP is -- a brief burst of radar trying to briefly glimpse your speed...

i turned on POP and the falsing was SO excessive, it was phenomenal. and i'm not surprised. i'm sure i was picking up every little flicker of radar from every door opener running K-band within a mile radius. i mean, if a knat flew in front of a K-band door opener at the Walgreens down the street, and reflected back a glimmer of energy, my POP would go off... (/sarcasm) it was INSANE. and the alert was much like LASER (full on or full off), which made the laser alerts (critical) less impacting and that's definitely bad.

i was very disappointed on how POP performed and reacted.

i'm also very curious to see how the V1 will perform in comparison. this could be a chance for the V1 to really shine over the 8500. but, i suspect it will be plagued by the same problems... simply due to the nature of POP.

There is no way to differentiate pop to instant radar, that's why a V1 will only go off normally. V1 will upgrade detectors from july 2004-dec 2004 for free to include the 2nd pop band. Anything before you have to pay.

A V1 with pop will false a lot more on K band than older models. A passport 8500X50 will also false more on K band (so I heard; don't own one).
