Default head unit brands

I have been searching the site alot, and it seems to be that alpine is most popular.

I would like to purchase an alpine deck, but one of my friends can get discount on panasonic, jvc, pioneer, and sony decks.

I tried seaching for info on these brands in the forums, but didnt get much luck.

Whats your advice? i might consider getting the panasonic CQ-C5310U. any thoughts?

The only headunits I would put into my car would be....

Alpine
Clarion
Eclipse
Panasonic

Panasonic makes good stuff...I just prefer Alpine.....more upgradability.

thanks guys

yeah i too would rather get an alpine deck. But right now i just dont think i can afford one of the higher end ones at the moment. i really don't know anything about cd receivers and their quality and funtionality. All i know is that ppL just tell me not to buy sony....

What are some pro's and con's of panasonic?

anyone out there get the panasonic cq-5310? (i think its the lower model of the 8300U) its the same but just without this 3d dot display or something, which i dont really need.

Then go with a 'lower end' one. The reason I quote it is because the 9827 or 9830 are fine decks. Yeah, they may lack a few flashing lights and only let you choose three colors for the buttons instead of from a palette of 512 colors, but ultimately does that really matter?

I have the lowest alpine (almost) and its still better than most units. If you have to go low end, go alpine. There is no need for a high end HU in this car.

is alpine really that noticably better than other comparable brands?

if anything for long term reliability, stay away from motorized deck, especially alpine.

many will disagree, but having to encounter many alpine decks, i can say it was not worth it.

but if you're only going to keep the deck for the lifespan of alpine decks, then i guess you can get one.

but the end choice is up to you. use it and let the product speak for itself
What is the lifespan of alpine decks?

i have an alpine, and i love mine. no problems whatsoever ever since i've had it (6+ months). non motorized, since I can't stand motorized decks at ALL.
