Default Head units that fit behind cover door?

Hello - New S2000 owner here. 2005 Silverstone, 16k miles. I want to replace the OEM head unit but I want to ensure that the stereo cover door will still close. Can anyone who has put in a new stereo that fits behind the door please post the make and model? I've been running some searches but haven't found much results. I guess its too much to ask that Crutchfield was able to tell me definitively whether or not which stereos will fit but all they say is "you might not be able to close the door". That doesn't help me much.

Thanks in advance!
Tim

They all do? I had a Kenwood Excelon from 2012 that I just replaced with a Apline UTE-62BT. Unless something has a huge knob on it or you get the wrong brackets all of the single din ones should fit just fine with the door able to be closed.

And since you are concerned about the door closing, I recommend googling a modifry harness and DCI so you can use the stereo controls by the steering wheel and leave the door closed more often then not.

Thanks! I like the UTE-62BT, might go with it. Are you running just the head unit or do you also have an amp? If no amp, hows it sound?

I do not have an amp. I think it sounds fine, I would say the sound isn't as 'full' as it is in other cars, bass might be lacking. I haven't played with the EQ settings all that much though, I just set it to the 'rock' preset. It gets loud enough for me with the top down and windows rolled down at 80mph, I haven't turned it up enough to hear the speakers start to crackle either.

A friend told me about this set up his car so I went with it also.
In my 02 I have the following:
Alpine CDE-154T head unit
Alpine KTP-445U amp
Alpine SPR-60C Speakers
instaled this about 5 months ago and I'm very happy with the set up. They didn't have to modify the radio door to install the head unit. Of course you will need the DCI to use the factory controls. Worth the money in my book. Best of luck with your system. Later BD

You can go on the Crutchfield site and see what will fit. You enter the car info and only those units that will fit will display.

Also recommend Modifry harness.

I have the Alpine UTE-62BT head unit in my ap1 and it fits perfectly. I am very happy with it. Otherwise I am stock - no amp and stock speakers. My car is very low mileage. I am considering adding Alpine KTP-445U amp and Alpine SPR-60C Speakers but honestly unsure because it sounds very good as is. The iphone app works well for tuning the sound.

Thanks. Only problem with Crutchfield is that they don't guarantee the cover door will close. They don't include that in their "It Fits" criteria. They have a disclaimer that all head units could possibly interfere with cover door.
