Default Headunit install

I'm installing a Pioneer headunit myself and was wondering if people reused the oem headunit brackets or used the mounting sleeve that came with the pioneer?

the included sleeve are for cars that only has a single DIN hole with no mounting brackets, our cars are ISO mounted so use the OEM bracket.

I tried using the oem ones but broke 3 drill bits trying to remove the screws. For some reason they were too tight to remove. I ordered new ones from a honda dealership for like $10 and they arrived next day.

Did you try to break them loose with a hand held screwdriver first? A lot of drills are high RPM-low torque so unless you had an impact drill you'd have a hard time removing stuck screws.

Yeah the OEM brackets screws were on there really tight. Almost striped the head on one of them. Just make sure to get a good grip before loosening them.

The OEM brackets don't sit flush on the pioneer headunit because of the two protrusions on the bracket. I'm guessing that is okay? Also I might need washers as the unit sits too far in. Did anyone else run in to that problem?

Yes I tried by hand for a while before moving to the electric.

I didn't have either issue (brackets not flush or sitting too far in). I have a kenwood 998 though.

Thanks for the replies. I ended up using the brackets even though they don't sit flush. I made sure to tighten them up so the brackets don't pivot. The headunit didn't end up sitting too far in like I mentioned earlier.

The final product...
