Default Headunit for Ipod music

Hello,

I recently purchased an S2K (about a week and a half ago). The previous owner had a Alpine CDA 9855 installed with a DCI module to retain dash controls. However, he does not have the AUX setup which is what I want. What additional part/parts do I need in order to play music from an IPOD through the HU? Or, do you think it is worth upgrading the HU? (Possibly outdated?).

Keep in mind, that I am trying to spend the minimal amount of money at this point. Already spent quite a bit to acquire the car and detail it!

Thanks,

Nick

Specs say it is "compatible with Alpine's iPod interface adapter."

And it seems you have some very affordable options:

Does that help?

The receiver you have is old/discontinued so it might not hurt to upgrade to something like this:

Ranges from $120-$300. If you do not plan on using CDs, go with the digital media receiver, the Alpine UTE-52BT for only $140. The DCI should still work so that you can retain dash controls.

You need the KCE-422i. However, even with that you'll need a charge adapter to charge your device unless it's an iPod Classic or older.

Your call. I have no idea how easy/difficult it is to find the KCE-422i and charge adapter these days or what they run for versus a new HU.

I still use a CDA-9886 and I'm happy with it but I don't need Bluetooth or other newer features.

I did some basic research and it seemed that I needed the KCE-422i and an adapter as takeshi stated to play music on this headunit.

I guess the main question I have is: is there a specific alpine ipod adapter that I can buy that will allow me to plug an ipod or phone into to play music, basically a simple aux cord? If so, is charging capabilities and the headunit ipod search function the only thing I am losing? In my past cars, I would change the song on the ipod itself.

I'm still unclear about the search results you posted since there are 5 different adapters. (Not sure which one I would get)

Assuming I need multiple parts to get a aux input, it might be wise to upgrade to the UTE-52BT. I'm assuming because it has a usb and aux port on the front, I would only need an AUX to AUX cable in order to play music and or a USB cord to charge a device (similar to my past cars)

Sorry if I'm missing any of your points. Just trying to get this figured out so I can order what I need.

Do you have the 9855 or the 9885? Two different models - the manual for the 9855 states you need the KCA-420i

http://www.manualagent.com/alpine/cd...manual/page-35

Doing a quick Google search shows it has been discontinued - original price was $100 anyways.

I would just get a new alpine unit so that you can use your existing DCI setup. And unless you plan on using CDs, the UTE-52BT is good enough - just use a USB iphone/ipod cable and it will play and charge at the same time (receiver probably won't come with a cable, but your basic one that came with you iphone/ipod should work).

I have an older iDA-x303 that uses a usb iphone cable and it charges my phone as it plays my music which I can control through the receiver, phone or dash controls (also have the Modifry DCI).

Ya, I have the 9855 and found the same info. Didn't know if there was a way around it.
Welp, looks like I'm buying a new headunit. Thanks!

Does anyone else have suggestions for a head unit? Obviously I need to stay with a brand that is compatible with my current DCI module.

For example, I looked at this one: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113KDCX...9.html?tp=5684

Its all a matter of what capability you want and what your price limit is. Also keep in mind what you might want to do later on (i.e., amp, sub, equalizer capabilities).

Also, what speakers do you currently have? You want to match up the right receiver to the right speakers (capability wise).

I would go with an Alpine deck and the Alpine Power Pack (KTP-445A for use with Alpine units or the KTP-445U for use with non Alpine units) which will boost your wattage without breaking the bank (45 watts RMS x4) - but only if your speakers can support that.

I believe the speakers are stock unfortunately, later down the road I will do some additionally upgrades to the sound system, but not right now. Is there a good choice that would function now with room to expand later?

Most of the headunits will be very similar in regards to power and capability. There is the new Sony one with the class d amplifier built in but if you don't plan on upgrading speakers, it's not worth the cost. If you can swing it, buy some new speakers to go with the new headunit such as the Polk Audio db651s (if you have tweeters, then you might want to look at the Rockford Fosgate Prime R165-S or the Alpine SPS-610c)
