Thumbs up Help with 2004 front speaker replacement

The speaker wires from the head unit split off somewhere before going into the door panel. Should I try to locate the stock cross-over and bypass it or should I feed separate speaker wire through the rubber tubing connecting the car to the door? Feeding separate wire looked like a big pain. Does anyone know where the cross-over is located? I'm beginning to regret doing this myself. My old GSR was so much easier to work on!

Just did a search and was happy to find a whole thread of questions and suggestions about how to run the wires into the door panel. Still sounds like a pain but the thread will help a lot.

not sure about 04, but in 03 the wire going to the woofer is full range. hook that up to the crossover included with the speakers you bought, then from there wire in the woofer and tweeter. no sense in running new wiring unless you are using big amp that needs big wires.

Thanks REvan. That might be a possible for the 04 as well, and maybe only the wire going to the tweeter is filtered. Anyway, I did the hanger thing last night and was able to feed new wires through.

After reading many threads about how that is a nightmare, I have to say that either those people are morons, or they're using shitty cable.

I ran mine this past weekend. It took 10 minutes to get the tape off the grommet and 30 seconds to run the wire through. I just sprayed a little silicone lube on the speaker cable jacket and gently pushed it through with one hand from the footwell while massaging the conduit between the door and body with my other hand.

This is the wire I used: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=100-656

yeah... great way to make friends...

1. monster cable has become rather poorly regarded on this forum due to their litigious nature.
2. you're using a cable 'highly specialized' for threading through conduit, so that makes all other cables 'shitty'?
3. people decided to use traditional speaker cable (even high quality) -- so they are all morons?

4. in and of itself, that cable seems like a nice find.... but your presentation SRPS.

(edit: spelling)

Also, silicon based products are probably not the best to be using when rubber is involved as I've read that it's chemical make-up deteriorates rubber quite aggressively. I recommend Ideal wire lubricant or good 'ole K-Y jelly.

Only those containing petroleum products.

I imagine any light weight lubricant would work just as well.

Use butter - gives your car the great movie theater smell in the summer when it heats up.
