Default help adding new speakers

well I have a decent setup. I have 2 polk audio speakers powered by a 65W RMS x 2 @ 4 ohms amp. Plus a 12in alpine type r in a custom box powered by another amp at 500 RMS x1 @ 2 ohms. plus an after market deck of course.

Well what I am looking to do is add 2 more speakers. The reason being because I have a hard time hearing the speakers when I am on the freeway. My question is first of where should I put the two additional speakers? (I am thinking behind the seats under the roll hoops). 2nd, can I just run the 2nd pair of speakers in parallel with the front pair? the spears are rated at 4ohm but running them in parallel would put them at 2 ohms but fully power both sets correct? I know the amp is capable of running at 4 ohms but would the speakers be ok with this?

Might not end up being enough sound by lowering Oms ?? maybe consult a shop but the placement of them should be Ok...

not enough sound? i mean it should be twice as loud. I know the sound quality won't be as good but there are so many other things I hear with the top down that I didn't think I would notice.

Post the exact specs of your current speakers and the exact specs of the amp. Model info works too..

Some amps will run at 2ohm and others wont..

Behind your ears are the best place for a second set of speakers... I'd get something more suited for treble than bass..

I have an alpine deck, alpine components and alpine amp.... and stock hoop speakers. I run the stock hoop speakers off the Alpine deck and the speakers off the amp. The stock speakers aren't any where near the quality of the rest of my system so my fix is adjusting the fader to the front by about 70%.

I can hear the stereo loud and clear up to 125+ with the top down =-)

If i add 2 more speakers it will probably be another set of pol speakers. Otherwise I have some pioneer speaks that are laying around that i might throw in.

I put two speakers behind the seats in the vented vinyl panel, it is a bit tricky to fit due to a metal bar back there, you can't use anything larger than a 4 inch speaker and one with a smaller magnet helps. It really helps with additional sound though, it works quite well, I'm not running any amps just off the head unit which is slightly amplified. I used to have speakers in the roll hoops but they were a bit too much being right behind your head and I didn't like the look of them.

Nothing fancy and I'm no professional but they do the job.

how did you set yours up? did you use some sort of spacer? also what kind of speakers in the rear do you have?

Sorry for the late reply, I post in so many places I forget to go back quite often.

I believe my speakers are 4 inch Kenwood , 3 way speakers, I am just running them off the rear speaker output terminals on my Sony x-plod head unit, which is 52w x 4. I just ran some wire to the rear panels under the console and glove compartment.

No spacer used, only the mounting hardware that came with the speakers. They are mounted a bit off center and low down on the panel in order to get the magnet of the speakers to fit between the metal reinforcement bar that runs back there, once I measured the appropriate spot I just cut a hole into the panels and mounted the speakers, they give you the templates and all necessary hardware. You need to be carefual as not all 4 inch speakers fit, you need ones with smaller magnets which the Kenwoods had, I believe I tried some other 4 inch speakers first but they were larger and would not fit, but the Kenwoods fit well. I got them at Best Buy here
