Hey I need some help. . .
I currently have an amp installed to run my seperates. However, now I want to add another amp and sub.

The amp now has preamp outputs so I was planning on daisy-chaining the second amp from the first using the preamp outs but I have to have power to the second amp

Now the problem - I have an 8 gauge power wire run for the first amp which is 180x 1. The second amp is also 180x 1. Can I use an 8 gauge wire for this and split it two both amps using a distribution block or do I need a 4 gauge wire for this amount of power?

Please let me know before I buy the second amp tonight.

 

for that amount of power you should be ok with the 8 gauge. Be sure to go from battery to split/fuse box then to each amp.

 

right now it goes to my fuse and then the 8 ga goes to the amp in the trunk.. my new problem is trying to find a 8 ga in to 2 8 ga out distribution block - know where I can find one?

I've never used one of their distro blocks before, but their rca cables and speaker wire are first rate, as is their service.

 

It says "4 ga input" does that mean I can use 8 ga input as well? Looks like the right price and it would work if I can input 8 gauge.

 

It means that 'up to' 4 guage will fit. 8 should be fine. 16 might not be big enough to pinch, but we're nowhere near that. I've bought several items from knu konceptz and they seem to offer good stuff at a fantastic price. Their wiring in particular is top notch, very high strand counts, etc.

 

Thanks all your help has been really great. I came up with a different solution to my problem and wanted to know what everyone thinks. Instead of a distribution block what about using a .5 farad capacitor? This way I can run my 8 gauge power to it then split to two 8 ga out for each amp. Anyone see negative side to this or think it is unnecessary?

 

You could do that, I suppose... Run your + wire from the battery to the cap, then two power wires from the cap to the amps... If you really want a cap, I'd run one wire from the cap to the distro block. I like to have each component indvidually fused, that way if I need to take something out or mess with wiring, I can just pull the fuse at the distro block.
