Default Help with front speaker install

Hey - I am looking for suggestions on how to best install my new front speakers. I have the MB Quart 6.5 componet set. The speakers are too deep to fit into the stock opening. If you have installed a 6.5 in the door did you use a spacer and if so do you need to do any "trimming" of the door panel to make them work? This set of speakers also has a cross over. Where is the best place to put this? If I keep it in the door what is the best way to secure it? Sorry for all the rookie questions but with past cars I have always had someone install for me but now I want to learn how to do it properly myself! If anyone has some pictures of their install I would appreciate it.

Thanks for the help!

AK

Depends a lot on the speakers...I ran Eclipse 6.5" and used a 1/2 closed cell foam spacer. Had to trim a little on the door frame due to the basket. Mounted the crossover in the door...not my first choice but didn't want the hassle of having to pull multiple sets of wires through the grommett. PITA. Mounted with double sided tape and wedged it into place. No problems in over a year of use.

Mount the cross-overs under the dash and run new wiring for them. Just use a 4 conductor wire to keep it simple.

Oh and for the Quarts you'll either have to trim the crap out of the stock speaker basket or just make some replacement ones out of foam, plastic, or MDF. (if you make them out of MDF make sure you paint them to protect them from moisture.)
