Help! Learned lesson, don't put anything in trunk with subwoofer!!
I made the mistake of putting my briefcase in my trunk and it must have fallen onto my subwoofer (no grill, which I need if anyone knows where I can get one for a 12 inch JL Audio Sub) and there is a small separation in the "cone" so it is vibrating when it hits. What can I do? Can this be carefully superglued or is there a better option? Thanks
Having been down your current road, I can say, "You should've spent the extra $20 for the grille protector!" Sorry, but Jim is correct. Continuing to play the sub will make the tear/rip get bigger... eventually.
As of right now, a little superglue and a flat toothpick have done the trick. The separation was only about 30% around and after about 10 minutes of heaving bass, it hasn't budged. Let's hope that it stays that way.
If it starts to fall apart.. look around town for a speaker repair shop.. not too many exist now days as people just replace the speaker.. but if you can find one they can do some really crazy work..

Although what you did pretty....ummm....not too smart...., if you ripped the rubber, there is no way to fix it. If it sounds ok, just leave it until you can get a new sub. But it IS dead from a machanical point of view.
where is the separation? is it at the rubber/foam surround or in the dust cap in the center?
if the dust cap, a repair is possible and likely to be permanent. if at the surround, you're going to have a lot of grief... pics?
