Default Help with my PDA/NAV mounting project!

I have a Palm Zire 72 PDA, and I want to use it for Navigation and MP3 in my car. I'm looking at the Holux 236 GPS with bluetooth, and the Delorme software. Does anyone have experience with this setup? I think PDAs aren't used enough, they're awesome for personal use and pretty much do everything. I think once some of us get some awesome setups going in our cars, more people will get into the PDA thing.

I want a real 'blingin' mount setup for this. I've seen and read the recent ones, like the ashtray setup and all, but I want mine to mount in a more visible place. I don't care how much work it'll take, I don't mind cutting into the dash or whatnot I just want it to be CLEAN. I was thinking about using a dremel and cutting a 3 or so inch hole into the dash where my PDA could sit, and fabricate some sort of holder for it so it would sit flush, or some type where it would actually mount (like those cell phone chargers that make the phone actually stand up) directly into the power output that would be angled up (towards the sky) and the PDA would sit/fit right into it.

An easier way would be to mount it somehow with a holder by the A-pillar to the left of the steering wheel. I think it'd be best in the middle though, so the passenger could also use the touch screen to navigate/select MP3s. If anyone has pictures of what the underside of the dash looks like, and any help as to what I could make for the PDA to sit into and NOT like look crap when the PDA isn't there, I would be very happy! Also, what type of stuff could I do to wire into an aftermarket head unit for MP3 usage and to power the device?

Let's see your ideas/mounts/feedback!

I got one of these that uses the bolts on the radio:

I use it to mount my ECU readout display, but it can be used to mount almost anything about that size. No cutting required, perfect line of sight.

That's pretty sweet xvip, do you have a picture of what it looks like when the radio door is open so I can get a better idea of how it's installed?

You can't see anything with the radio door open. That bracket goes behind the door frame (that whole thing including the air vents). The mounting is completely stealth.

I've got a proclip adjustable ipod mount attached to the panavise s2000 radio mount, and I've got a proclip ipaq sleeve holder for my ipaq with copilot gps sleeve attached to the proclip s2000 mount that attaches next to the shifter. they work very nice, but took a bit of fiddling to get out of the way of the radio door. the positioning is very nice for using the pda, but it tends to get in the way otherwise.

Alright, I just ordered the Holux 236 Bluetooth Nav receiver and Delorme Road Atlas 2006 or something. I also got a couple of 1GB cards for my PDA (for 40 bucks apiece!) and a new Kenwood head unit so I'm almost ready to rock my new NAV/Audio project!

Here's what I need help with:

I REALLY want to mount the PDA where my visor is, either cutting into the visor to have it sit inside it or remove the visor and fabricate some sort of holder with a hinge to flip down. However, I'm either seeing fitting problems or that it's just going to be too hard to set up. The only other areas that I think would work well are to have it mounted against where the vent is to the right of the steering wheel or in the usual mounting spot to the right of the CD player like where many people have it. I'd really like it closer to my view though, as I'll be using this for NAV also.

Does anyone have any ideas how I could mount and wire this? I assume I'll be using the AUX input for a CD changer in the new head unit, but what type of wire will I need? I'm guessing it'll come from the headphone output jack in my PDA.

I want this to be set up really neat and clean, but I'm having a hard time coming up with anything solid besides the 'norm'. Any more help would be great!
