There's too many MP3 head units out there. Narrow it down by only looking at reputable brands i.e. Alpine, Clarion, Eclipse, Kenwood, Pioneer. Then, figure out what options you really care about. Some that might matter to you:
Sub out/Sub control
Internal crossovers
Internal equalizer
XM/Sirius capability
The fronts, I think I've said enough about that...the easiest answer is to just listen to as many as possible and pick what you like...
The w3 might be boomy in as small an enclosure as the Lucid 10 box but there are plenty that could work well in that airspace.
For the amp, you could get a 4-channel with 100 watts per channel. Use 100 each for the fronts and bridge the rears for the sub.
If you get the S-pods or rears, you could just use deck power.
If you're serious about this, no one can really say what would sound best to your ears...The best anyone could do is give you their opinion but even then, you'd need to name a budget

Pioneer head unit? alright, if you like it. i've generally found them to be a bit too gadgety for me, but they are decent heads that usually have nice features and good output. i don't think this is a bad choice.
components... i'll just say JL components did not impress me. before you settle on them, i'd be sure to listen to as many different sets as you can...
if i recall correctly, w/ Lucid's 10" box, you're severely limited on mounting depth (less than 5" i believe?), so when choosing your sub pay special attention to it's depth.
while NFRs2000NYC doesn't like the JL subs, i generally do... they are expensive for what you get, and there is better bang for the buck out there, but i've come to find that the JL subs are generally a pretty musical sub, which is a quality whose value isn't always easy to determine. but you won't always want to just pick the sub based upon a size and depth match to the box... you also need to make sure you've got enough or not too much airspace for the enclosure. the JL sub isn't probably the best choice for that enclosure.
regarding amps -- that will depend some on what speakers you choose, and therefore what power requirements you'll need. if you're going to go w/ the S-pods, i'd recommend a 5 channel amp just to give you more wiring flexibility down the road. but b-man's suggestion for a 4 channel is also a good one.
you also need to consider what you're going to do regarding your dash controls...
finally -- it's hard to make any suggestions or real criticism w/o a budget and an idea of who would be doing your install.
and i'm not 100% sure about 80% going to door speakers and amp... that seems a bit high. but a good chunk of your budget should go towards your primary speakers and not electronics.

wow, thanks for all that help!! well....... as far as the headunit i really like the pioneer, or i was thinking about getting the alpine CDA-7995. then, as far as door speakers, i have knoe clue what to get. i wnat to hear them really really well with the top down, and i plan on powering them with an amp. then as far as amps go, i think im gonna go with a 4 or 5 way, but just want to wait and do that last so i know how much power i need. now as far as subs, im still gonna go with the jL w3 v2, and depending on the enclosure it will be a 10 or 12. i plan on making the enclosure myself (give me some time with my pops). so again, if any of you gurus find something wrong, or could help me out (like on door speakers) i would appreciate it.
I know I must sound like a broken record to some people.....(dont say anything Phil
)....
But go give the best Infinity's (perfects) or midline focal's a listen. give em 150 watts a piece and youll be happy as a bug. Everyone in NY who heard my system absolutely loved it...ESPECIALLY the highs.
