Default Help- Speaker doesn't work!!!

Yesterday my friend and I installed my new amp and everything went fine. Today I noticed that my driver's side door speaker is not working, but the tweeter on the drivers side IS working. I checked all the wiring and couldn't see anything wrong. I'm 99.9% sure the speaker was working yesterday. I've done searches on the board and couldn't find anything. Any suggestions from the Audio gods???

Ok..........I am 99.999999999999% sure its something with the wire.

Check....

On the speaker itself....

On the crossover in....

crossover out

amp in

.......

Next step, if everything is good, try swapping the RCAs and check if the problem is fixed.

.......

If still no, then pull the speaker, and plug it into your home stereo for a sec and see if it plays. Ive done this 1 million times, it will cause no damage.

If not....check back here.

even if the wires look good on the cross over , one wire could have fallen off your mid

Exactly....you need to check the wire on the SPEAKER itself.

I got $5 on a loose speaker connection. Take that speaker out and check the wiring.

I'll check the wiring when I get home tonite. If i can't find anything that I can see I'll take a picture and maybe someone with a better eye can take a look at it. Thanks for the replies!!!

My thinking is that as soon as you pull out that speaker you will see a dangling wire. The solution will be obvious, you'll just plug it back in, and rescrew the driver back in.

BUT,

If it's not a bad connection, check your speaker by wiring it directly into your home stereo. If the speaker works, then wire it directly into your crossover and see if your crossover is functioning properly. (use the same wires you plugged it to stereo with. just cut a short line you can carry with the driver) If that works, then you've got a short somewhere in your speaker line from the crossover to that front driver. Replace that speaker wire.

Ok, solution reached, unfortunately. The coil in the mid is blown. I took it inside and tried connecting it to my home stereo, nothing.

I then checked the crossover by running the output of my home stereo into the x-over and then into my home speakers. That worked.

So i knew it was something between the x-over and the driver. I examined the connections to the driver, they were fine. i realized I didn't know what was wrong and took it to my local shop. The guy said it was probably blown, connected it to voltmeter (?) and said yeah the coil is blown.

So now I need new speakers, which is fine b/c I was gonna eventually get new ones anyways. Any suggestions on a 6.5 that will run off of 75 watt RMS? I really like the Infinity Kappas and perfects, but they're 90W RMS. Will they run alright on 75W RMS? if not, any other suggestions? Thanks!
