Default Help with wiring PAC to harness

I am going for it. Here I go.

Just a couple questions:

1. The only wires from the PAC that I am actually using are the red, green/red, and black ? And I'm putting the resistor between the green and black wires. No problem.

2. Once I program the PAC, what do I do with the IR LED? Do I have to leave that exposed or can I just tuck it in the dash?

Thanks for your help.

And Dan (MacGyver) if you read this I tried emailing you at work, but it got sent back to me

Bulletin on the PAC website says 3.6kohm resistor......

Is it 3.3, or 3.6 ? Am I okay if I put the 3.6 and it really only needs 3.3 ? Now I'm scared....

Okay, so it does need to be visible?

What about the relay? Is that only for Alpines? Im putting in a Kenwood KDC716S. Or is that relay the solution for all radios with a mute?

Thanks!

the IR lead has to be as close as possible to the IR input of your head unit

Bernie,

Not sure why your email was bounced back...

If I remember correctly, the PAC only HAS three wires anyway (red - power, black - ground, green - signal). See the schematic on my webpage for the correct resistance to use, but be prepared to modify that value if you're one of the unlucky ones with an odd radio.

You can place the IR LED anywhere you want to, with two restrictions: 1) It has to point at (or in the general direction of) the IR sensor on the radio face, and 2) It has to be close enough to that sensor to allow for good operation (up to a couple of feet is usually sufficient). If the sensor location is not readily apparent or marked on the face, you can easily find it by blocking more and more of the face with your hand while pointing the remote at it...when the remote stops changing the functions, you've just covered up the sensor.

The relay is used for all radios that have some sort of mute functionality where a line driven to ground acts as the signal (Mute, ATT, Cell, etc.)

I'm actually wiring it right now and on my way to your page to get that diagram. Forgot the one I printed out in my car of course....

I have the newest PAC which is the SWI-X, and I guess replaces the 1,2, and 3 SWI's previous. It has about 10 wires. I'll post a pic when I'm done. I'll try using just the 3 and everyone pray with me........

Ok, help. How do I know which point on the relay is the NO, NC, etc? I have a little blue thing half the size of an AA battery with 4 points on it. Which is which?

_______________
C
COM--------------o / o---NO
C
_______________

That's exactly what's on the back of the box...

COM is "common"

The two C's are labeled as 'coil' and then NO is normally open.

This is the Radio Shack 275-233.

If you can explain this to me, please help.

Thanks,
Sean
