Default high end headunit w/non-folding face

To all audiophiles and those in the know....can you point out any models that are high end sound quality and high voltage outputs. The main requirement is that they are not motorized where the face folds down at a certain angle and hits the the S2000 CD PLAYER COVER. You iknow what I'm talking about....

was looking at the eclipse 8445/8455 but noticed that when you hit the button to insert a cd...the face folds down at a 45 degree angle and that will jam as there simply is not enough clearance for it. I'm game for clarion, eclipse, alpine, or any other high end model.

thanks in advance.

the cleaner the look the better....i'm not into flashy...so nakamichi styling is dead on..but i dont' know enough about them.

The only thing you need to know about Nakamichi products that cannot be learned by reading the specs on their site is that their reliability is less than stellar. I went through three CD400's on my previous vehicle, and although it pains me to move away from their clean appearance, I will not be purchasing a Nakamichi this time around.

My experience with Nakamichi HU is a little different with Helios8. I had Nakamichi CD400 in my S for about 1 year without any reliable problems. It performes very well, the sound quality is first rate, the faceplate is simple and elegant. It is hard to find a non-flashy HU now a day.
My problem is with Memphis Amp 16-MC2004, it just died on me about 2 weeks ago at low volume. I am trying to have it fixed, if not possible, then my next amp will be Boston Acoustics GT-22 to drive front speakers and rear speakers will be driven by Nakamichi HU.

I also have had a CD400 for about a year with no problems, and am pleased with its appearance and sound. Helios8, What was the failure mode you experienced? Same for all of them?

The 1 DIN Alpine HU's with the fold down face do not hit the cover.

About half the time when I would insert a CD or power on the units, they would load the disc, but not know there was a CD inserted and not allow me to select the CD source or eject the disc. I would have to reset the unit (which would spit out the disc) and try repeatedly. They would skip constantly for no rhyme or reason. No correlation to disc or road surface.

The first three I had exhibited those problems to varying degrees. The one I'm on now skips a lot, but has only "forgotten" it has a disc inserted once or twice in the year that I've had it.

My Eclipse 8443 also folds down at the 45 degree angle you're talking about and it doesn't hit the cover.

Other good choices are Nakamichi and the Clarion 9255. I would probably choose the Clarion over all but the highest end Nakamichi.

nakamichi's have CD playback problems. i have owned a few, cd-35z, cd400 and a cd700ii. so i do know what i am talking about. i had problems with the 400 and the 700ii. believe it or not, my cd400 was in repair for over 6 months. it never got fixed. dont get me wrong, they are great units.

i know one that is perfect, RFX-8250. it is a denon unit rebadged as a RF. if u pay close attention to the cosmetics, very close to the High end denon units. here is a link to one on sale right now on Ebay.
RFX-8250

these are very rare units as they were never actually released. do a search and u can find a good amount of info on them.

Thanks for all the replies guys!

Darkknight1999, could you give me some specific model #'s on the 1din units you are referring to?

Timq, I would really appreciate it if you could post pictures on the 8445 with sufficient clearance because I would really love to buy the 8455 or 8445. Thanks!
