Default How about some suggestions for a new headunit . .

It's been many years since I had the desire to replace a stereo but the stock headunit is really poor. We play a ton of audio books but then can't hear them top down. I started out looking at the Alpine x305 but want to solicit ideas from you experts.
I want to run an itouch 2g and a Droid Incredible through it. I don’t plan anything beyond Modifry controls and maybe some speaker updates.
Basically my question is - - What head unit to replace the stock unit with. I don’t care if it has a CD player and I don't want to spend a fortune.
Thanks for the advice.
Mike

I have the Ipod only Alpine head unit (don't recall the model number), the Alpine KTP-445 Power Pack (the inline amplifier that boosts output to 45watts RMS), and JL component speakers in the doors. I am extremely satisified! The power pack makes a huge difference as opposed to running straight off the head unit, and it's plug-n-play. The system has just enough low-end where I'm not craving a sub (and I use to be a bass head in my younger days).

Oh, and I have the Modifry dash controls. About as simple of an install as you can get. The toughest part are the speakers (speaker spacers, and making the tweeters fit, etc).. Everything else is cake. With the KTP-445 Power Pack, no having to run power, ground, signal, or speaker wires; just plug it inline with the factory harness and head unit!

Thanks everyone....I ordered the x305s with Modifry wired DCI. I also ordered Alpine SPR-17S speakers for the door. I'll wait on the power pak and see if I need it.

Thanks Again

Well, being that I like to do things as simple as possible.... I just put it in the little cargo net thing on the right side of the transmission tunnel, left of the passengers leg.

I never see it from the driver's side, and don't even notice when sitting in the passenger's seat as the cargo net thing keeps it out of the way. I don't have anything else to put there, so in went the power pak

Yeah... not the most elegent solution, but it works and takes no time at all. The elegent solution would be to run it under the carpet and under the passenger seat.

Oh, I also used the Modifry wired DCI. Works like a champ. Seriously, to do the DCI, headunit and Pack Pak, probably only 45 minutes from start to finish. The speakers on the other hand... that took a little bit more time to do it clean.
