Post How to bring 13volts down to 12volts?

Hey guys, I have the spoon hardtop and its a pia to see out the back so I have installed a rear view camera. My problem is my car is off it gets 12volts and its fine but when the car is on it's giving it 13.34volts and It cant handle it so it starts to reset its self. My question is what can I use to bring down the volts down ? resistor? relay? Fuse?

If you can figure out how much current the camera draws you might be able to use a voltage regulator for high-current LEDs

That or I would get a camera that can actually handle an automotive environment.

here's a voltage regulator, but it can only handle 1 amp. perhaps you can use a few of
these in parallel for greater current, but you'd have to ask an EE.
As for your S4, pretty much all alternators produce > 13 volts when the car is running,
so I'm skeptical that's the difference between the two installations.

Voltage regulators need some amount of drop (over 1 volt) to operate - try two crummy diodes in series for a voltage drop right above 1 volt.

Thanks for all your responses guys appreciate it. In order to use the Diodes do i just solder them in series towards the voltage stabilizer then from that to the power on the camera?

Yep. Diodes usually drop .7 volts each.

I doubt the higher voltage is the issue. Where are you tapping the power from?
