How to make an $80 doorstop....
While prepping my XM antenna for installation I got a little overzealous with the utility knife and cut into the insulation around the microcoaxial cable. At first I figured, "hey, no big deal" and proceeded to wrap the cable in electrical tape. Somehow my system knew I was not being a good owner as the display flashed "antenna". Crap! An $80 doorstop (well, $50 when I get my rebate).
So, I decided to pull the ruined antenna apart to have a look:

I think I paid about $79.13 too much for the parts inside.

Sorry to hear about the mouse, I mean antenna... Are you planning on replacing it with another Terk? I'm seeing more cars sporting OEM antennas for Onstar/GPS navigation systems and was wondering if any of those antennas might work for XM. What does the plug end of the XM antenna look like?
Scooby2 - Yes, I did replace the antenna with the same one. I was quite pissed with myself when I ruined the first one. I mounted the new one on the section between the trunk lid and the rear window. Someone else posted a picture of the install location a couple weeks ago - I did the same thing. I meant to take a picture while I was in the garage, but I forgot.
I'll see if I can snap a picture of the mounting location and wire ends tomorrow.
Matrix - yes, it crossed my mind, but those cables are tiny and unlike anything I've seen before. I can work with RG-6 just fine, but this stuff would require some special tools I think since it is so small and coaxial. The wires also seem to be glued in place along the bottom. I removed the mounting tape and started pulling at the wires to see if I could get them to come loose, but all I did was pull them out of the insulation some more. I might play with it some more later.
