Default How to take subwoofer out of enclosure?

Hey guys this may be a stupid question but I just cannot figure out how to take my alpine type r subwoofer out of the enclosure in my trunk.. I had a shop professionally install it, and I want to make sure they wired it in parallel. I went to my car earlier and unscrewed the rubber thingy, but it does not come out..

Unscrewed the rubber thingy?

There should be screws around the outside of the speaker, and then you usually just have to get under the edge and kinda pry it out. If they put the foam gasket on like you're supposed to they stick to the box fairly well.

The rubber thingy as in the rubber surround of the subwoofer. I mean I can sort of pry the rubber surround away from the actual sub if I really try, but is this how to do it? I don't want to stretch it because it's on there pretty tight.

No, don't pry on the surround, you need to get under the metal speaker frame.

I think I know what you mean. Basically the rubber surround is on both sides of the metal part of the sub. After unscrewing the rubber surround I need to pull it to the side enough to get a grip on the metal edge of the sub, then pry it out?

So, after looking at some pictures, it looks like there's a cover over the ring of screws, which it sounds like you've taken out. After all the screws are out, take a flathead screwdriver and gently work it between the box and the outside edge of the sub. Once you've gotten it unstuck from the wood, you should be able to just lift it out.

No there is a rubber cover over the surround, then the actual surround. The surround goes around the metal outside of the subwoofer. So the subwoofer is like sandwiched between the surround. It's like [(I), the I being the outside of the subwoofer, and the () being the surround, and [ being the cover. If that even remotely makes sense, haha.

I think after taking off the rubber cover and unscrewing the screws that hold the rubber surround in place, I need to get under the outside of the sub and pry it free of the surround.

The shop couldn't have glued any pieces of the subwoofer onto the box right?

Yeah, that's what I was trying to say.

They shouldn't have glued it, but like I said, sometimes they stick in there pretty good. If you can break it free from the seal it should lift right out.
