My installer is saying I won't be able to hear/feel it very well because of the sound being cut off from the trunk. I don't need mad crazy bass..I really am looking for a clean sound/feel but I do like having it hidden. Maybe i should do bass shakers under the seats instead?

I got a powered subwoofer put behind my seat. Its called a Boss Bass600. It barely takes up any space back there and does fill in the low end quite well. It wont win any competitions or make quarters flip on your dash but it works well enough for me.

Open up the spaces between the cabin and the trunk and you're problem with a rear mounted sub is solved.

You can feel mine if you are in a car NEXT to my car, let alone IN my car. If done right, you will feel it just fine.

i did bass shakers (pros) in the map pockets, they definitely bump, and i enjoy my stereo more now (it's a convertible and i'm always top down so they work for me). maybe not as good as a sub in the trunk but they're very inexpensive. my install was easy 'cause i already had an amp powering the front speakers/tweeters and had two rear speaker amp channels not being used...

You can feel the bass just fine with the right setup. A nice 8, 10, or 12" sub will be jest fine.

I have a simple 10 Inch in my trunk... Also, have the plastic tray for the soft top gutted.

I think that Im powering no more than 250 watts, and my eyes cant focus when the bass hits.

So, I think you will do just fine
