Default I have installed Kelton sub in my S2k!!

It has taken some time and effort, but I was able to successfully install the Honda/Kelton sub unit in my 01 S2000. What I did was purchase the wiring harness for the Odyssey and wire it to my stook head unit. The harness has the signal and power wires integrated into it. One goes into the fuseblock/relay panel, one goes into the radio, and the last one is long, to go to where the sub is mounted. It was a pain, as the instructions were of little help due to the fact that this is a diffrent animal all together.

I mounted the sub behind the drivers seat, i'm not that tall so, I sit up close anyway. It fit well, there was no way to firmly attach it, because there are no brackets or tabs included. I just laid it there and had a trial listen.......

After about 45 minutes of listening, on several types of music and fickeling with the adjustments, I'm let down...Alot.

It adds some bass, but you can't hear it at speed and the door speakers puke out well before sub does. I turned the bass down on the head unit and then turned up the gain on the sub and I could really not find a happy median. The bass is muddy and has no depth whatsoever. My advice, go custom in the trunk, its money well spent. The Honda solution sucks!!

What should I have expected for $350usd? Oh well, the dealer took back the sub, but my modified harness will be on ebay soon.

I kind of figured that's how the factory sub would sound. I'm glad they let you return it.

Thanks for the report. Your expense is my gain.

I really do appreciate your test. I was hoping this would be a good solution. You put that illusion to rest.

Thanks for the test, do you have pics to show? We all wondered how it would be!

Hmm, it sounds like the sub doesn't have any decent x-over controls on it - isn't it a powered unit? But of course, your door speakers won't be x'd-over, so it makes sense that you'd be seeing what you are I guess...

Too bad!

I do have decent cross over built into my Alpine head. There's a sub out and a high pass filter for the other four speakers.

Maybe I should still give a small powered subwoofer (Clarion or Honda or Panasonic or Kenwood) a try.

I didn't take any pictures, I must have had a dumba$$ attack last week. Basically what I did was lay the sub module against the rear lower bulkhead behind the driver's seat. I have the seat up about 1/4 of the way, so there was about 5 inches of space left. I measured the sub at just about three inches. There is no way that beast would fit under the seat, I tried....Hard. There were a number of places to put it in the trunk, but all you could hear were the higher notes and they had this hollow sound to them.
Mabye my ears have been spoiled by the IASCA winning cars that I have built, but I'm still looking for viable alternatives to "our" bass desires.
Stay tuned...

I called a Denver Honda/Acura dealer last week about the RSX subwoofer. The dealer's parts man said that the RSX parts list doesn't even list a part number for it. In other words, if an RSX customer had a defective sub, they couldn't order a replacement.

the bose acura/rsx subwoofer does fit in our car and it is available for purchase (at least in my area) for about $300 including the amp.
