I need some Alpine Wired DCI help.
Ok so i just finished installing my new headunit (alpine cda9857). And everything is working great except for the mute button on my dash control.
I bought the alpine wired dci w/ harness from the marketplace. And i also soldered all the connections. I did however NOT connect the dci blue wire to anything at all. The instructions list that blue wire as optional, and my headunit has the remote jack in the back of it.
So has anyone had similar experience with this?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Thanks,
hook up the blue wire to the ATT IN wire on the 9857 (pink if I recall correctly). Then mute will not just attenuate/mute it will put the HU in interrupt mode which will pause the cd, ipod playback, etc as well.
If for some reason you don't want that extra functionality, make sure DIP switch #3 is set to ON (DIP switch #3 OFF = the DCI uses the blue wire).

I came across the same thing. Wanted to disable the interrupt/pause functionality but the #3 dip switch did nothing. It was either hook up the wire and have pause (which has a strange lag delay) or no mute at all. I kind of want the button to do what the mute does on the HU itself (fade volume % reduction).

I never tried it the other way as I prefer the interrupt.
This is in the instructions that come with the DCI.
The DCI can do "MUTE" one of two ways - the normal mute which sends the appropriate command to the head unit (via IR or the 3.5mm plug) OR via a hard-wired connection to a dedicated wire on the head unit (sometimes called "cell" or "ATT"), which connects to the DCI blue wire.
The "cell" or "ATT" lead is typically used for cellphones, where you wire your HU to your in-car phone so when you receive a call it completely shuts off the audio on the HU and pauses CD/MP3 playback. Many people prefer this method for a MUTE commmand instead of the "fade out and keep playing" effect you get with the normal mute.
Since there's no telling how some head uints might react to receiving both commands at the same time, I put a dip switch on the DCI to disable the normal mute (IR/plug) command. That way if you want to use the ATT lead you can turn off the other command and prevent confusion. If you don't use the hard-wired ATT function (blue wire), be sure to turn ON the normal mute command with the DIP switch.
Note - in nearly all cases the normal mute is ON when the DCI is shipped, since that's part of the test procedure.
Note 2 - The normal DCI mute works on all head units since all it does is mimic the factory remote control mute. BUT - if your HU does something different if you press the mute button on the HU versus pressing mute on the hand-held remote then you've got a different situation. The DCI can only send a command like the factory remote, I have yet to figure out how to get it to press buttons on the HU.

Bump from the dead 'cause I have no mute.
Alpine 9857, Modifry wired DCI.
Hit mute, nothing happens.
I have pink/black hooked up, and have tried the DIP in both up and down positions. I have no mute regardless. Anyone have any ideas why? Everything else works.
Mute worked in my car before I put this headunit in.
This setup had the exact same problem in the last S2000 this setup was in as well. Removing this and going back to the OE headunit in that car returned mute functionality for that car.
It's hooked up 'right', but is there a way to test for a faulty DCI? The DCI is under 3 weeks old. Friend bought DCI, i wired it in to his headunit. He sold car last week, i took headunit and DCI and same issue happens in my car.

If I understand you correctly, it sounds like you are using the hardwired
mute (cell/att - DCI blue wire). Since it doesn't seem to work either way,
the most likely problem is either the DCI not getting the signal (bad
connection) or not processing the signal (bad DCI).
Are you using Modifry's harness? either way, confirm that the harness
has the mute wire in the right position and that the pin in the plug isn't
bent. the proper pin configuration is listed on this page:

I am using the hard wired mute. When i hit mute, i don't see the little red light on the front of the Alpine flash like it does when i make every other command.
I'm not using the PnP harness, just interfacing the DCI harness with my existing one. I'll check the links. Thanks man.
