If you had $300-1000 to bid on (or buyout) a head unit on ebay (or any online vendor), and you were going to put it in your S with Dynaudio speakers and Butler amps right now, what would you choose? (Or, what would you look for, if you don't feel like browsing ebay.)

I like the JVC one with the mini screen on the faceplate. It reads DVD's, so you can watch them on the mini screen (kinda impractical) OR make an audio DVD. This basically gives you as much storage capacity (if not more) than an iPod, and you get a visual component as well. It also fits our cars... I think its like $450 on eBay.

Personaly I would never spend the money on one of those "All in One" head units. I feel they are prone to breakage and noise. Get yourself a real good cd player for like 450-$550 max and use the rest of the money for a wild night on the town..

Pioneer DEH-P860MP

For the price, a lot of bang for your buck.

If you want, I'll sell you my Pioneer AVIC-N1 (Navigation, touch screen, DVD, MP3) headunit. I also have a 6 disc dedicated Pioneer Changer, rear view camera, and voice control. All that for $1000. And I have original boxes for everything except the changer. Email me at said.haykal@gmail.com if you're interested.

That is why there are warranties. I have heard from several members on this board who have this unit and love it. They said it sounds good, and most of all, you get the most bang for the $.

This will not fit in the S without modification.

dynaudio and butler tube drivers huh? nice stuff.

from a audiophiles perspective, i would either go with a clarion drz9255 or alpine dva-9860 + pxa-h701 + rux-c701

i have had both setups and i enjoyed the alpine setup more than the drz9255. it really depends on what youre looking for. both are great decks.

Mmm... both look like great suggestions. I hadn't seriously considered the separate processor approach, but that trio does weigh in right around $1k. Then again, the Clarion deck can be found for a couple hundred less, wouldn't be as large/heavy, and offers only the features I'd use.

Can any of Alpine's single-din head units control that processor? I know a couple of the ones with big screens can... it's be nice not to have to pay $200 for the separate controller that I'd have no particularly good place to mount.
