i'm impressed
DJweaver and i spent the better part of today tuning my stereo system with a master sound guy named Kevin
i know i told my installer that i wanted my system stupid loud and he ensured i got what i asked for because honestly i didn't know any better..
today i learned a great deal about sound stages, tweeters, bass, crossovers, gains and what a great sounding system should actually should sound like. Again I never asked my installer to tune my system because I didn

Bass- I just finished tweaking mine, but always wondered what a pro tuned system would sound like. How much did it run you? What kind of people / shops do this kind of work? I was thinking one of the smaller install shops in town, but none are really big enough (all mom and pop type places with out the fancy technology, or sh!t holes like Best Buy). DJ service? Audio install place? Home theatre company?
Thanks
John
Thanks
John

Thanks guys
Dan when i talked to Kevin he stated that the quarts are bright because the tweeters has a great response BUT when tuned properly they are not as bright as everyone thinks
John - DJweaver found an car audio shop that hires this tuner when the customers request tuning. The Guy who tuned my system is a judge for sound competitions and an instructor for car audio installers. for the better part of the time he set the gains on my amps, set the time delay and tuned the system by ear BUT when he thought he was close to where he wanted it - he used an RTA (i guess these things cost about $1500) to tweak the settings on on the equalizers
MR_ASDF - thanks for the advice the three ways were my idea and the installer did not recommend them - he stated my next logical upgrade would be better speakers because for some strange reason my Diamond hex tweeters just cut off at 12k (something i don't recall the term he used) - the eq is a five band eq in the alpine headunit - down the road i may add a 30 band eq but honestly i am very impressed right now

Bass- If you do mind me asking.....how much did it set you back? I am looking to get this done too. My setup sounds pretty good, but once I add a high-pass amp for the mids and highs, I think I will need some pro tuning.

My price was a bit more then DJweaver's because i did not buy my stuff from this shop
The normally charge $69.00 an hour but they changed me $50.00 an hour - took four hours so total cost was $200.00 BUT well worth the expense

i was able to hear djweaver's car when i was up there visiting... it sounded quite good, and i've since used some of those base settings as starting points for my own tweaks. of course, my setup is a bit different from Doug's, so i can't carbon copy his settings...
glad to hear you're happy w/ the new sound Steve.

let me ask you this, how do you like your diamond speakers? if you like them, no need to change them. he is probably trying to sell you something. get a nice eq before you change speakers. a nice eq can do wonders for any speaker.
just so you know, on my Lotus tweeters, the RTA i used doesnt register anything past 14khz, but i can hear it up to 19khz. unfortunately, my ears cannot hear 20khz. use test tones to see if you can hear past 12khz. i am pretty damn sure you can on your diamond tweets.
