I'm thinking of doing a huge downgrade
I'm starting to feel the pinch of using a car with lots of stereo equipment in it. Problems are popping up that weren't problems when my S was primarily a California weekend car.
I guess the two biggest issues are that my enclosures get in the way and that my connections get jarred loose by these crappy roads.
It seems that every briefcase or uniform I throw in my trunk is just a little too wide to fit comfortably among my equipment And it pains my heart every time I crawl into my car and a highly polished boot accidentally scuffs up my kick panel or one of the speakers in it.
Yes, I do take great care when installing wires but when you have over three dozen connections like I do (do the math: under the hood, in the door, in the kick, behind the radio, to/from the amps, to/from the e-crossover) something's bound to come loose now and then. And when it does, using up precious weekend and evening hours rooting it out is way fun
Anyhow, my plan is to go way simple--take out the kicks and everything in the trunk and bring it down to a comp set in the doors powered by the deck. If the mood strikes me, I may even seek out an '04 deck to get my dash controls back.
Thoughts?

It sounds to me that the problem isnt with the setup...its with the equipment. Why not get a nice 4 channel amp, for the speakers, hide it in the spare area, a sub in the toolwell, and the sub amp somewhere else. THis will keel most of your trunk free.
I dont think the problem is with equipment, just the placement of it.

btw -- at this point, if you haven't seen Mario's (b0mbrman) setup in the pics of installs thread, go and check it out... this guy knows how to build a system. he may not be as bling as John or Dave, but....
^^ Oh. What the hell am I putting in my two cents worth in for then??
I guess I can just verify that you can still have good sound with the minimalist stealth setup...since that is what I did!

no no no...
i didn't mean it like that... just that Mario is in the know.
afterall, he's the guy who originally setup the FAQ.
Kronos, i was just pointing it out for all those readers who have no clue who b-man is since he has been out of the loop for a bit due to work/life.

Probably not unless you made your way to one of the huge meets in San Francisco as I just got into Texas less than a month ago.
Maybe I'll do a farewell tour around this part of the country with the system before I rip it out and feed it to the dogs
Hmmm...A 4-ch sub + comps system sounds good. I've always wanted to know how far I could get just picking an expensive set off the shelf and tossing it in.
Only reason I might want to go even simpler is because I'd like a setup I could walk away from in 60 seconds.

You can still get good sound with a mid size amp in the spare area, and a small sub in the trunk with one of William Laurent's enclosures.
