Default Infinity Basslink

Trunk space is very important to me so I am considering the Infinity Basslink. I would like to know if it would fit in the opposite side of the spare time. If you have a picture of it, please post it and give your opinion.

I do not a huge amount of bass, just enough to compliment the door speakers.

My understanding is that the Basslink has a fair amount of output. So if you are not looking for wild whumpin' bass it may be sufficient. I haven't seen too many people put things to the left of the spare tire so I'm not sure how much room is there. My suggestion (as limited as it might be) is to pull the cover and take some measurements. Let us know as I might like to use that space too but for an amp. Not sure how easy it is to mount stuff there, though.

The only place I could get it to fit was on top of the tool kit in the spare tire well. It sounded good, but the height of it stuck out above the top of the sump so I ended up taking it back. Sorry no pics.

I would have bought one if I hadn't already bought a separate amp and 12". I've heard the basslink in an SUV and it sounded great. Very powerful! Being inside the cabin probably made a huge difference though. The nice thing about the basslink is that the speaker is matched to the amp that is built in, making the sound quality good with little work to the consumer. As far as the space opposite the spare tire, I think it can be done, but you'll have to remove the rear deck. You'll probably want to keep the rear deck out as the speaker will be right up against it and rattle the crap out of it. It's my understanding that the basslink has a passive radiator on the opposite side of the speaker, which means that if you lay it on its side as the previous poster had, you won't get all of the sound that it is capable of. Unless he took out the tool kit and left a void underneath the basslink. In other words the vertical mount is probably going to give you the best results.

Trunk area to the left of the spare tire? Ask and ye shall receive: (I mounted my amp there)

This one shows the spare tire area as well (spare tire removed, at least for that shot)

Good Luck!

(The amp is an Infinity Reference 7520a if you want to check dimensions on it)

I've got a basslink in the recessed area where the tools are. It takes up a little less than half of the well. I can't turn it up all the way or else things start rattling all over the place and it dominates my door speakers. One day i'll fix that...
I recommend it for space saving and ease of install with good results. I can take pix if you want and will try to estimate if it could fit in the area across from the spare later.

i was thinking to get one after my father bought one for his E36, i was kinda of hoping it would fit where the spare tire is, but the area is tight.

i dont think it will fit across from the spare, because the fuel pump equipment is there, and i was only able to fit a small amp in there.

pics of basslinks in the S would be great!

Thank you all but I am still left with the impression that I must pull out the panel to do the measurement.

On a unrelated note, do we need to remove/pull the center arm rest to run the wires to the head unit? I stopped short of preinstalling an amp when I tried to pull one of the plastic nut and it snapped/broke off. If you got pictures of center arm rest removal, please post as well. Thanx again!

BTW, I am not young and vibrant as when I was in college. I still tinker but not as much. If you have some spare time and would like to come by my place or I come by yours to help install. I will fill up your gas tank for the effort. I live 20 miles east of LA, CA.

No way a Basslink will fit left of the spare. Maybe if you put it in a blender first!

I have one, it sits in the well in the trunk on top of the tools. If you mount it flat, it ends up flush with the top of the well and takes up about 2/3rds of the width of it. I actually wired mine with a heavy duty electric plug from OSH so that I can quick disconnect the power, ground, and remote lines. If I want to remove the basslink for increased storage space, it takes me about 30 seconds to disconnect my plug and the 2 RCA jacks.

As far as performance, it is pretty decent for what it is trying to be.
