Default Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1 Front Speakers

Hey Guys,

I have an 05 and I've upgraded the stock HU to an Alpine 9855, the difference is amazing, just like you guys have been saying. Now I'd like to upgrade the front speakers. I'm looking at the Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1 component speakers. I don't have an amp at the moment so I'll be driving these speakers from the HU for now until I can install an amp sometime in the future.

I have two questions about these Kappa Perfects:

1) Do these speakers install relatively easily in the stock speaker locations in the 05? I'd like to avoid cutting/trimming the panels. Does the tweeter fit correctly in the stock tweeter pod?

2) Do the crossovers get hot during normal operation? I'd like to know if they get hot before I choose a mounting location.

Thanks for your help in advance!

1) Kappa Perfects 6.1 fits perfectly to the speaker basket after cutting out the back of the basket. You may want to buy XTC speaker baffle and cut off 1"x2" of the bottom of the baffle to shield the speakers from rain water and to allow air circulate just like the OEM speaker baskets.

2) I had my crossovers installed inside the door panels (lower left of driver door and lower right of passenger door) and my Perfects were powered with 175Wrms without any problem so far.

As stated above, you need to cut out the bottom a rectangular size 1"x2" . There are two sizes of 6.5" baffles: short and long, you want to get the short one, about 3". This short one will cover the speaker magnet and do not intefere with window.

This picture tell you where I installed the crossovers on the passenger door. The plastic protect the crossovers from water dripping down from windows.

How did you secure the crossovers? I'm going to use the same spot, but I'm not sure what I'll do to keep them secure.

Actually, the crossovers was on the door's panels at that locations. You will need to remove the faked side airbag boxes, then install the crossovers in place of the airbag boxes, using existing screws. Lower left coner of this picture is the exact place for your crossover.

This is a rough fit picture, I trimmed the wood panel much nicer and painted it before the final mounting. As you can see, I removed the factory "box" and mounted it there. Since I Dynamated the whole surface of the door and the crossover is closed, I am not that concerned with water damage (it's not a daily driver either so it doesn't see that much rain).

The tweeter's fit perfectly in the factory locations. They come with a couple of mounting options and I used the factory mounting plate to secure them. I don't think heat will be a problem.

I would make sure you have heard these speakers before hand if you have not already bought them. Although I read many positive reviews, I personally think their strength lies in high power handling. I do not think they are a very "melodic" low volume setup. I am running a Pioneer Premier 860 and powering them off a 400 watt Soundstream Van Gogh. They have insane (by my standards) power handling ability but personally I would probably have preferred smoother sound.....maybe a silk tweeter vs. aluminum? A second Van Gogh is powering a wlaurent 10" sub. Overall a VERY strong system top down at any speed, just not that pretty.

I definitely think you're eventually going to need an amp to take advantage of their best qualities.
